My first speed test, when I got back home, was already just over 1,000Kbps, so it is indeed faster. Upload still sucks, and just like before, the speed is very inconsistent, going up and down at will. I can now stream video from UTube or MySpace, where before I could not, so this is an improvement. I am also able to watch TV online, via my Slingplayer, but the transfer to my real television, via my router/CAT5e cable, is not very successful. For some reason, I can see a pretty steady 490Kbps online, but it wants to stay below that on the television.jdocophttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13181078856529970210noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1665445670578227202.post-74423436253406120652010-04-26T13:59:37.494-06:002010-04-26T13:59:37.494-06:00I hear ya! I changed Voice of God to only connect to the 3g network. I found that in the ICE connection box, it was set at "automatic"...this meant 3g for 5 minutes then it drops to the "edge" connection. The only problem is that when the 3g came back, my config manager wouldn't jump back up to the 3g when available...SOOO...now every ten minutes I lose internet completely for about 80-90 seconds. Then it resets itself and I have pretty screaming 3g connection (usually from 500-900kbs. It's short lived...then it drops...but doesn't go to Edge...instead it just waits. This is the setting I use when I'm downloading music and movies because it automatically connects to the 3g. I use the "ICE" connection for the Edge connection when conducting low bandwidth things like email, etc... Give it a try and let's keep our fingers crossed for some more consistent connections! Also, a friend of mine paid for the higher connection speed on his data card and there seems to be a problem...it's slower than my connection. Whodathunkit? Pura Vida! One of the reasons I'm stuck in San Jose is because Internet is so big a part of my life, and it has been since I first learned to use my 14k modem way back when. Someday I may be able to flee San Jose, but for now, oh well...No. Cal. It was a commodore 64 and I called bbs systems all over the world. Now we take for granted instant global communication. Think how much it would have costs just to make a phoen call from Costa Rica to the U.S. in the 1980s.

Hang in there! It's better than dial up.

As a side note, the new 4G, yes that's 4 instead of 3 is now avilable in 24 U.S. markets and eventually the system will be able to support 100 mbps while mobile or 1000 mbps (1 gbps) stationary!expatcostaricahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12306593450962190191noreply@blogger.com
